Quality manufacturing standards
Generic drugmakers are held to the same standards of good manufacturing practices (GMP) by health authorities as brand drugmakers. National health authorities inspect our facilities around the world to ensure that generic manufacturing, packaging and testing sites pass the same quality standards as those of brand-name drugs.
A complex generic is a generic that could have a complex active ingredient, complex formulation, complex route of delivery or complex drug device combinations. At Viatris, we are proud to offer a number of these important medicines to patients, including our Wixela™ Inhub™, the first generic of ADVAIR DISKUS® and glatiramer acetate injection, a generic version of Copaxone®, for example. And we continue to invest in bringing more to market, as more than two-thirds of the products we will launch in the coming years will be either complex generics or biosimilars.
In addition to generics and brand-name products, we also produce branded generics, which are generic drugs that have been given a different brand name than the reference product. We market these drugs in many countries after approval by the appropriate health authorities.
